The Latest Trends in Smart Home Design

Enhance the Look and Feel of Homes with Luxury Smart Technology In our last blog on smart home design, we outlined some helpful tips for Illinois interior designers, custom home builders, and homeowners on how technology can enhance the look and feel of each room. But both high-end technology and interior design are constantly evolving, so we’re back again. This time, we’re focusing on three technology trends that have been hitting it big in the Naperville area of late. 1. Staged Lighting for All Occasions From setting the right mood to highlighting specific artwork or architectural features, there’s no denying that lighting plays a big role in staging homes. But there are a few key problems with the standard process of staged lighting: It takes time and effort to create the perfect lighting environment Turning on lamps, adjusting the positioning of light fixtures, and dimming certain bulbs is not a quick and simple process. Most rooms need different lighting for different activities The lighting setup in a living room that is ideal for a cocktail party with friends is completely different from the lighting needed for enjoying a movie. Here’s where smart home technology comes in. You can upgrade the property with smart lighting control that lets you set up “scenes” for certain occasions. Instead of having to walk throughout the room turning on lamps or adjusting dimmable bulbs, one button press creates the perfect environment for entertaining, relaxing, movie-watching, and more. 2. Motorized Shades Window treatments are an excellent way to add texture and pattern to a room, but they are often at odds with the beauty of...
Farewell Good Friend

Farewell Good Friend

On Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 James Russell Barrett died peacefully at Hope Hospice, near his winter home in Bonita Springs FL. He was 80 years old. He was born into one of the earliest River Forest, Illinois families, on May 17th, 1931 to John Francis Barrett and Alice Flanagan Barrett. He had the Rockwellian experience of growing up in the same house his father had been raised in, with relatives living right next door. His sister stayed on and raised her family in that same house while Jim raised his family a block away. He attended Saint Luke grade school and graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL. He was the youngest and last remaining of the Barrett brothers (John, Tony, Tommy, and Billy). He is survived by his beloved and adored wife of 60 years, Mary Koebel Barrett, and his very dear sister Margaret Barrett O’Neill. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susanne Marie Barrett. He is also survived by his four remaining children James R. Barrett, Jr. (wife Janet Waycie, sons James Russell III, Edmund), Joseph W. Barrett (wife Dianne Lamb, sons Ryan & John, daughter Laura), Jeanne Marie (Gigi) Barrett Lee, (daughters Jeanne (great-granddaughter Hatteras), Madeline, sons James, Kevin, Brian), and Brian J. Barrett (wife Christine Rutkowski, sons Miles & Todd). “Gentleman Jim” was a fierce competitor from a family rich in football history. His father was an All-American at Oak Park and River Forest High School under the legendary coach Bob Zuppke. His dad went on to play at Washington & Lee and later he played professional ball for the Chicago...

For too long TV, speaker, and Audio equipment locations have been an argument starter between most happily married couples.  Men have had to compromise on size, location, and quality of their beloved A/V equipment in order to apese their significant other.  Women have had to deal with ugly black boxes cluttering up walls, ceilings, and corners of their beautifully decorated rooms.  Thankfully there are companies out there like Seura, Sonance, and Trufig who understand that not everyone drinks that same cup of tea, and have developed some “No Comprimise” solutions which are sure to make all parties happy. Seura How cool would it be to ditch the Black Box in your Living Room.  The Premier series TV Mirror gives you the ability to do just that.  It magically disappears when it’s turned off.  Seura’s Premier Series TV’s perform in some of the most unexpected ways, and top the competition by performing like no other televisions , and like no other mirrors. There are three ways to sum up Seura’s Premier Series TV’s:   Super Thin, Perfectly Discreet, Amazing Sonance Conventional speakers are designed for the ear, not the eye.  As a result, they often draw unwanted attention, creating a sense of clutter that compromises the appearance of the room.  Sonance believes there’s more to exceptional speakers than sound alone.  They must strike the perfect visual note as well.  The shape, the size, the finish, and placement – should be considered in the context of the room itself.  It becomes part of the design, as deliberate as the flooring below and the lighting above.   Trufig Trufig: Your Vision, Pure And...

GREEN ENTERTAINMENT

Energy efficiency, conservation and improving technologies are at the forefront of constructing and utilizing electronics these days. While most companies Barretts Home Theater Chicago partners with, are leaders in using energy efficient components in their manufacturing processes, many have taken it a step further by ensuring the products they sell at Barretts Home Theater Chicago locations are packaged to reduce waste, recycled at the end of their lifespan and use less energy to operate over a longer course of time. In addition, companies such as Sharp and Hitachi, both seen at Barretts Home Theater Chicago showrooms, have taken the word “GREEN” to a new dimension. Sharp and Hitachi have built design and manufacturing facilities that are using energy efficient technologies including solar and cogeneration systems, thereby reducing the need to buy energy from outside grids, and reducing CO2 emissions. Hitachi’s products are rated using eight criteria, including resource reduction, product longevity, resource recycling, and ease of decomposition, to name a few. Their products are shown in catalogs and websites with an ‘eco-products’, accounting for 83 percent of total net sales across all departments. Sharp, along with two other electronic companies, established a new electronic product recycling management company, Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company to manage collection and recycling in the U.S. Thanks to these innovations and progressive initiatives from both companies to create energy efficient, long lasting products, the number of LCDs televisions (manufactured by both companies) sold at Barretts Home Theater Chicago has increased; LCD, liquid crystal display is a thin, flat display devise made up of color or monochrome pixels.
